This past weekend I had the pleasure of watching our Daisy troop enjoy their first camping experience (even though we were only day camping).
We arrived bright and early on a chilly morning in time for the flag ceremony. I think the Daisies really enjoyed watching the raising of the flag and seeing other troops all participating as one.
We then jumped right into the activities for the day. We started by working on the Daisy Promise Center. Although the girls had already earned their center, this was great for them to go over the Girl Scout Sign, Handshake, Promise and Law once again. They made magnets with the Girl Scout Sign, built the promise line by line and also had the opportunity to play a Promise board game.
Next, the girls completed their first journey, Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden. They learned about planting the seeds for leadership and making new friends along the way. They were able to participate in planting flowers at the camp as well as start their own mini “garden” to take home (Daisies).
Next, was a quick snack before it was time for crafts. I think we had about four different snack times throughout the day and many bathroom breaks. We read some more stories from their journey book in the while chowing down.
For the craft, the girls were able to color their own fall bags which will be perfect for their night of trick-or-treating.
Next was lunch time and the girls were thrilled to finally be having lunch. I swear they are all in a major growth spurt! I have no photos from lunch (I was pretty hungry too) but we took a few during our downtime.
Last but not least, the girls got to try their hand at some camping skills. I think they really enjoyed these activities but were getting really tired at this point. First up was knot tying, followed by first aid, the shelter building/racing and we finished up with orienteering.
The girls were shown a demonstration once on how to build a shelter. I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to build this with little help from the leaders and other scouts!
It was then time to head home. The girls earned their journey badges as well as a fall camp fun patch. Overall, I think they had a great time and we are all looking forward to the spring. A special thank you to Julie who volunteered to join us!
